OSHKOSH – Linda Chang knew information technology'd be difficult to start her ain nail salon, but she nonetheless fix out to bear witness she could.

Chang grew up in Oshkosh, where she lives with her husband and five children. She said some days it's still difficult to believe she has a business organisation downtown. But her dreams are growing: She wants to eventually expand The Finishing Touch into a larger salon — she is currently her only employee and would like to exist able to offer more availability to her clients.

Of course, making the option to run her own business wasn't easy: Chang fabricated just enough coin to pay the rent her first month open in November 2019. But she thinks it'due south of import for women to model that success is possible if you're willing to make those sacrifices.

That same idea is ingrained in Chanda Anderson, who has owned Caramel Crisp Corner, 200 City Center D, since 2008. The store started as a 2,000-square-foot cafe and has since expanded into a restaurant, kids' toy store, souvenir shop, ice cream parlor and — most recently — a bookstore.

"You have to have a strong business programme and you can't look to make money in the beginning few years," Anderson said when reflecting on how her business has go successful. "You have to pinch pennies, work a lot of hours. And I yet do, for that matter."

Anderson said she'southward constantly adapting her concern. She tries to stay on acme of trends and uses trial and error to figure out what'due south popular.

While information technology'due south hard work, these women are grateful for it. Chang said she'due south also grateful for the support she's found in her community.

"Women are more than supportive of another woman business owner," Chang said. "The back up that I get is astonishing."
